Starter Replacement on Older Honda TRX300 ATV - What You Need to Know!

After you watch a You Tube on replacing the starter on your older Honda ATV, you'll be encouraged to buy a new starter (get the gasket too) and get to work. However, as I've found on many, if not all You Tubes, they tend to gloss over the tough stuff. In the case of this replacement, there is a hard-to-reach 10mm bolt that has almost no clearance on top due to the carburetor. When you realize your socket and wrench won't fit, you'll wonder (after you finish cussing!) how to do it. Here's a solution:

Make a long wrench using vise grips and an open end wrench at just the same angle as my setup in the photo:

Grip it tight and give it a slight downward angle

You'll reach under the exhaust and get the wrench on the tough-to-reach bolt to loosen it.
